How to Host a Princess Party

At-Home Princess Birthday Party

This past weekend we hosted a Princess Birthday Party for our now 4-year-old daughter, Olivia at our new house. It seems like everything our daughter is interested in has to do with the color pink and princesses. So of course, it was only fitting that Olivia wanted to host a princess party at our house. I spent a lot of time searching online how to host a princess party. Here’s what we came up with for a party:

Princess Birthday Party

Dressing Up As Princesses For The Birthday Party

Since we just moved into our house 3 weeks ago, we decided to have a small birthday party with only a few of our daughter’s friends to keep it manageable. Everyone invited to the party was encouraged to wear a princess dress. However, we also let them know that if they didn’t come in costume, we had plenty for them to choose from. Before the party, we put these darling princess costumes out for the girls to dress up in. (Be sure to see the links at the bottom of the article for where to purchase the princess dresses)

Making Princess Crafts

Once all the guests were here and in costume, it was time for princess crafts. At Michael’s Craft Store they have a great assortment of craft projects for kids. When I went they had Disney Frozen crafts on sale. (Tip: Sign up for their e-newsletter to receive weekly coupons) The girls loved making Frozen snowflakes and it kept them entertained for about 30-45 minutes before it was time for lunch.

A Lunch Fit For A Birthday Princess

After crafts, it was time for a princess lunch. For lunch we served Princess Punch (pink lemonade), Princess Star Sandwiches (PB&J’s cut into star shapes), Cinderella’s Pumpkins (cutie’s with a celery stick), and Magic Wands (watermelon shaped stars with grapes on a skewer). Of course the girls loved the themed lunch and it was pretty easy to make. Since we already had a star shaped cookie cutter at the house I was able to use it for both the sandwiches and watermelon shaped stars. Had I had a crown cookie cutter, I would have made the sandwiches shaped like princess crowns. Here are a few photos of the food set-up for the princess lunch:

A Princess At Her Castle Photo Shoot

While searching for party supplies on Amazon, I came across this adorable photo backdrop for a princess party. I knew instantly that this would be darling for Olivia’s birthday. The backdrop arrived several days before the party. It did come folded up and there were quite a few creases in the backdrop. However, the creases were not very visible in the photos. Had I had more time, I probably would have steamed the backdrop.

After lunch it was time for the princesses to get their pictures taken against the castle backdrop. We had the backdrop set-up in a separate room so the girls were all surprised when they saw it. First we took individual pictures of each princess and then a group photo of all the girls together. They were all laughing and giggling and have a great time! Next it was time for birthday cake and presents.

Time for Princess Cupcakes

After we finished taking pictures, it was time for cake and ice-cream. Olivia requested strawberry princess cupcakes with pink frosting (of course). Thankfully I was able to find a Strawberry flavored cake mix at the grocery store. For the frosting I used Betty Crocker’s Pink Icing In A Can. It was so easy to use the can of frosting. To finish the cupcakes, we found Princess Cupcake Toppers at the Dollar Store. We served the cupcakes with strawberry ice-cream.

The girls ate their princess cupcakes and ice cream and then it was time for presents. Everyone had a great time and it was such a fun party for all the girls. The party lasted for about 2 hours (perfect length for 3 & 4 year-olds) and then it was time for all the princesses to go home and rest. Olivia had a great birthday party and we are grateful for our wonderful friends who were able to join us in celebrating Olivia’s 4th birthday party.
