Grow What Brings You Joy in 2025
Practical Tips for Cultivating Joy in Your Cut Flower Garden
In 2025 I’m choosing to grow what brings me joy. Here’s why clearing out the weeds makes room to grow what brings you joy.

As 2024 comes to a close and 2025 is just around the corner, I find myself reflecting on all that this year has taught me—and all that I’m ready to leave behind. 2024 has been a year of clearing out what no longer serves me, both in the garden and in life. I’ve learned that when we clear out the weeds, we make space for the things we truly want to grow. And it’s time to put that lesson into action in 2025.
We’re entering a new year, and with it comes the opportunity for a fresh start. Whether you’re a cut flower gardener or a flower farmer like me, we all face the challenge of deciding what to focus on, both in the garden and in our lives. And, just like our gardens, there are plants—or habits, tasks, and distractions—that no longer serve us and need to be cleared out.
Making Room To Grow What Brings You Joy. What plants in your garden, or what activities in your life, are no longer serving you?
If you’re overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing—whether it’s planting too many varieties, saying “yes” to too many commitments, or feeling distracted by all the possibilities—I want to encourage you to get clear about what does serve you. In my case, I’m focusing on the things that light me up. For me, that’s dahlias, local flowers for the community, and helping others grow their gardens. That’s where my energy is best spent, on growing what brings me joy.

When you clear the weeds, you can finally get clear on what you truly want to grow.
In 2025, I’m choosing to focus on a few things that will truly help my business—and my joy—flourish. It’s so easy to get distracted by all the “should dos” and “what-ifs.” I’ve learned that when you take a step back and focus on what’s right for you, things begin to grow in the direction you want.
So, what’s on the horizon for The Flowering Farmhouse? We’re diving deep into growing dahlias—both in our field and in The Dahlia Patch community. I’m focusing on growing more flowers for local florists, creating gorgeous farm stand bouquets, and hosting hands-on workshops for fellow flower lovers in our local Hood River community. But more importantly, I’m clearing the weeds and getting back to what matters most to me: nurturing the soil and the people that bring me joy.

And you know what? Every year is a chance to start new. How will you choose to grow and bloom in 2025?
Whether you’re growing your first flower garden, diving deeper into your passion, or simply deciding to nurture what already brings you joy, 2025 can be a year of intentional growth. The possibilities are endless when we focus on the things that make us happiest and healthiest.
So, what’s your plan for 2025? What are you choosing to clear away? What are you planting with intention? The best way to grow is to start with a plan and trust the process. As they say, a goal without a plan is just a wish.
In my case, I’m making it clear: I’m growing what brings me joy. That means that I’m growing dahlias, making local flowers accessible to my community, and sharing my passion with all of you. I can’t wait to see where this year takes us. I’m so excited to continue learning and growing alongside this incredible community.
Here’s to a year of blooming where we’re planted, and growing what brings us joy. 🌱✨
