Navigating Spring Gardening Stress
In Episode 56, “The Push of Spring: How Seeds and Seasons Reshape Us,” you’ll learn how to navigate spring gardening stress with more grace and trust.
Spring is a season of beauty—but also a season of pressure.
For many gardeners and flower farmers, spring gardening stress is very real. The to-do lists grow faster than the seedlings. Expectations rise with the temperature. And suddenly, the joy of planting and preparing is accompanied by exhaustion, self-doubt, and that persistent feeling of being behind.
If you’re feeling stretched thin this season, you are not alone.
In Episode 56 of The Backyard Bouquet Podcast, I share a solo reflection called “The Push of Spring: How Seeds and Seasons Reshape Us.” It’s an honest look at the invisible work that happens before anything blooms—and how the garden gently reminds us to trust the process.

Growth Begins in the Dark
We love to celebrate the blooming, but we don’t always talk about what comes before it.
Before a seed becomes anything resembling growth, it has to crack open. It has to dissolve its shell. It has to surrender its shape—all in darkness, long before it ever sees the light.
That’s where I find myself this spring.
We’re building a new farm from the ground up, and while it’s exciting, it’s also stretching me in unexpected ways. Some days feel tender. Some feel overwhelming. But when I pause, I realize: I’m not falling apart—I’m cracking open.
What the Lotus Teaches Us About Resilience
The lotus keeps showing up for me lately. It appears in conversations, teabag quotes, and coaching calls—always whispering the same message: you were made to rise through the mud.
The lotus doesn’t bloom in perfect conditions. It grows in stagnant, murky water. It doesn’t wait for clarity or control. And, it blooms because of the mud, not in spite of it.
And maybe that’s the reminder we all need right now: we don’t need perfect soil to grow. We just need to keep showing up.
You Are Not Behind
If you’re feeling the weight of spring gardening stress, please hear this:
- You are not behind.
- You are not doing it wrong.
- You are in the middle of becoming.
Spring demands so much—of our time, our bodies, our energy. But even in nature, there is rest. Roots grow quietly, underground, before anything appears above the surface.
You don’t have to bloom yet. You’re allowed to pause. You’re allowed to trust that something is taking root—even if you can’t see it yet.
