The Flowering Farmhouse is so much more than just our flower farm.
It’s about family and life in our modern farmhouse and gardening and DIY projects and even some of our favorite recipes.
The Story of our flower farm
For years I’ve dreamed of having a place to grow my own flowers. My husband and I looked at many properties trying to find the perfect spot to grow our flower farm (we’re still looking for more land)!
As a young child, I vividly remember visiting my uncle’s house and seeing fresh cut flowers from his garden throughout his house. I told myself then and there that someday I would grow enough flowers to fill my house with fresh flowers. My mom is also an amazing gardener so I guess you could say that my love for flowers and gardening runs deep in my blood.
We built a modern farmhouse in 2019
In 2019 we ended up building a modern farmhouse on just over 1/4 acre lot. While it was not enough space for a true flower farm, it provided our family with more room to grow. Plus we were able to build a gorgeous modern farmhouse!
For our first summer in our new home, I planted almost 200 dahlias in front of our house. I truly fell in love with flowers and my desire to have a flower farm grew. Fortunately in 2020 I was able to take Floret’s online flower workshop and I also leased my neighbor’s 1/4 acre field to grow more flowers. I was finally able to get my hands dirty as a flower farmer!
Did you know that I am also a photographer?
Besides being a flower farmer, I’ve been a professional photographer for a decade now. In 2011 I began my journey as a professional sports photographer. I’ve had the opportunity to travel around the world photographing water sporting events. Perhaps some of my most memorable ones that I photographed were in Fiji and Costa Brava, Spain.
Over time my photography has evolved and now I specialize in newborn and wedding photography. I also have done quite a bit of real estate photography too. You can check out my photography at www.gorge-usphoto.com.
One of my goals for 2021 is to make my photo editing presets available for sale. If you’ve never tried using Lightroom mobile presets on your photos (even your cell phone pics), you’re missing out! It’s a game changer for having good photos!
Meet My Family
Of course I can’t forget to mention that I am also a wife and a mother. Family is the most important thing! My husband and I were married in 2011 and we have a little girl, who is growing up way too fast. We also have two rescue dogs, one we brought back La Ventana, Mexico. Our dogs are Rusty and Twinkie.
Our family also loves water sports (stand up paddle boarding in particular). My husband and I actually met kiteboarding! He was one of my kiteboarding instructors. We hit it off instantly and had our first date at the Portland Blues Festival in 2009.
Did I mention that we love to travel?!?
Our family also loves to travel. Our favorite family destinations are Kauai and Maui. Can you tell we enjoy warm weather? We’ve been fortunate to travel (and live) in many places. I have actually lived in Rome, Italy and Barcelona, Spain! Because of our love for travel, you may find that I occasionally will also share some travel content.
