Have you ever tried growing dahlias from seed? Traditionally dahlia flowers are grown from tubers, but did you know that you can also grow dahlias from seed? I grow most of my dahlias from tubers. However, I also find it to be fun and exciting to try growing some dahlia flowers from seed. Each dahlia seed will give you a new variety of dahlias.

I was first inspired to grow dahlias from seed when I bought the Bee’s Choice Dahlia Seeds from @FloretFlower several years ago. This year I already have around 100 plants growing from seed and I can’t wait to get my hands on even more dahlia seeds with the release of Floret’s new book Discovering Dahlias!

Thank you to everyone who visited my blog in the past few days to read about growing dahlias! I’m so excited to see so much enthusiasm about growing dahlias! So many of you also entered to win 10 of my dahlia tubers. I will be announcing the winner in stories this evening… Who’s excited?

This is a photo that I haven’t shared in a while. 2 years ago this is where I first started my small flower farm. I grew about 200 dahlias and you know what? They didn’t grow very well right here. One of the lessons I learned as a flower farmer is that good soil is everything! Last year I amended the soil and what a difference it made!

Our snow storm is over and we are feeling so ready

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗 It’s a snowy day

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗

It’s a snowy day here with over a foot of snow on the ground. The greenhouse is thankfully staying warm with all my little seedlings and geraniums inside.

Yesterday I spent some time shoveling snow away from the foundation of the greenhouse, our home, and the playhouse. You don’t want snow right up against your home when it starts to melt.

We are supposed to get quite a bit more snow by Monday morning. We’ve had fun playing outside in the snow and cross country skiing throughout our neighborhood. Looking forward to another fun snow day. What are you up to for Valentine’s Day?
